11 May 2009 (Sat) Benefit Concert All Day Event

It is with a heavy heart that the staff and family of the US Military Veterans Center annouces the loss of the 2 year old daughter of two of our beloved group members, Jeff Mirabeau, and his wife, Shaunny Stovall.

We will be holding a benefit concert on Monday, 5/11 with all proceeds going directly to Jeff and Shaunny.  Times for live performances are still being scheduled, but is planned as an all day event with DJs playing between performances. Please join us at the Hangar to show your love and support.

Memorial Day Weekend

23 May (Sat) 5-7 pm SL, Costume Party at the Armed Forces Recreation Center

Join Army vet Buddy Ordinary for a costume party to kick off the weekend!  Prizes will be L$2000 for best costume.

24  May (Sun): Rolling Thunder XXII – Washington, DC

24 May 2009 (Sun) 5-7  pm SL, Salsa with the Vets at Patriot Island’s Cowboy Country

Join SL’s hottest DJ, Johnathan Hies, for an evening of hawt Salsa.  He’ll drop L$2,000 on the boards for Best Salsa Look…a grand on each contest board.  That’s right…one HOT Salsa male and a female will each win L$1,000 in hot linden cash.

25 May 2009 (Mon) 4-5 pm SL, Native American Veterans Memorial Rededication

On Monday, May 25, from 4-5 pm (SLT), we will be having a rededication of the Native Veterans Memorial at its new location at Virtual Native Lands. Please arrive early if you wish to be smudged.

SL sunrise will be at 4:30 pm SL, which will be part of the ceremony.

Dress Code: Military Uniforms, Native American attire (only if you are native american please), or appropriate PG clothing. This will be a Memorial Service.

LM will take you to a TP, use the silver TP for Veterans Memorial:

25 May 2009 (Mon) Memorial Day Ball 7-9 PM SLT’s%20Adventure/35/32/22

Join Chief Edward Pluto, USN (Ret.) and the lovely Mya Shalala from 7 to 9 pm SLT at their elegant dancehall, Moonlight Serenade on their private Poseidon’s Adventure island.  Lewton Zerbino will be your DJ for an elegant evening ball at the Moonlight Serenade.  Formal attire or military dress uniform is requested.  Don’t have formal wear? Visit the Welcome Center at Patriot Island for good quality freebies, including formal wear.  Or pick some up at the door when you arrive at the Moonlight Serenade.  Need a military dress uniform? 08 July (Wed) 5-7 pm SLT Relay For Life “Swing for a Cure”

Calmm Air Hangar Club and Gallery from 5 to 7 pm SLT.

Dress vintage/retro and swing the night away to that Big Band sound.  Help us support the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life Project at a virtual airstrip owned by USMC vets known in Second Life as Maybe Morahan and Swelter Ember.  Click on the SLURL above to arrive directly in front of the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life secure donation kiosk.  All too many veterans have battled cancer, including several of our friends in the U.S. Military Veteran group.  Please invite your friends to stop by this event and drop a few Linden dollars into the kiosk, even if you can’t stay for the fun. Perhaps during the evening you will learn the rest of the story behind this Relay For Life Dance For A Cure event.

Gentlemen, get your accounts charged up and ready for the Date Auction! Yes, a number of ladies have offered two hours of their time to the highest bidder to provide you with a memorable outing in exchange for your generous donation to the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life project. Ladies, please get your notecards in to me soon so that we know who will be up for bid. Create a notecard, name it after yourself and include ACS RFL somewhere in the name of the notecard so we can find it easily. Send it to me, Asdzaa Oh to enter yourself in the auction.

  12 July (SUN) ALL DAY!! Relay For Life Picnic

U.S. Military Veterans Center @ Patriot Island

Come on down and support the US Military Vets Relay For Life (RFL) in SL team as we work to help find a cure! We are holding a picnic at the beach on Patriot Island! Horseshoes, sack races, swimming, fishing, balloon rides..BIG twisty water slide! Barbecue! While you’re here, drop a few Lindens into an American Cancer Society Relay For Life donation kiosk. Your generous contributions go directly to an official American Cancer Society avatar and on to the national headquarters. Every bit counts in the fight against cancer and we thank you for sacrificing your time and means.

Veterans Day 2009 Events So Far
Here’s what we have so far…please address a notecard to me, Asdzaa Oh,  if you have a vet related event to add.

Sunday, November 8th to Saturday, November 14th:
The 3rd Annual SL Veteran’s Tribute which will be held from Sunday, November 8th to Saturday, November 14th, 2009.
The Tribute itself is non-political and serves one purpose and one purpose only and that is to honor all the men and women that have given willing of their time to protect the lives we enjoy today.
We operate on a zero dollar budget and are non-profit; the entire tribute is built, funded, organized and executed on a purely volunteer basis. We have an organized group on SL called the “SL Veteran’s Tribute” if you would like to look it up.  This group will be used as the basis of our planning and scheduling for the Tribute.

Further more, the SL Veteran’s Tribute is designed to collect money for Operation Uplink ( which provides pre-paid phone cards for military personnel stationed overseas.

Blackheart Garden Memorial invites us to visit in rememberance of fallen comrades, friends & family. International flags are welcome, you can leave an item, candle, or a note/photo on the message boards near the monuments.

Free “Thank You” Dinner
Monday, Nov. 16, 2009,
5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Golden Corral’s 9th annual Military Appreciation Monday dinner will be held on Monday, November 16, 2009, from 5 to 9 pm in all Golden Corral restaurants nationwide.
The free dinner meal is a special “thank you tribute” to any person who has ever served in the United States Military. If you are a veteran, retired, currently serving, in the National Guard or Reserves, you are invited to join us for Golden Corral’s Military Appreciation Monday dinner.
To date, Golden Corral restaurants have provided over 2.2 million free meals and contributed over $3.3 million to the Disabled American Veterans organization.
